USP-800 Pharmacy Upgrades

Using modular, prefabricated hood trailers to relocate active pharmacy operations was always part of the plan. Halting all daytime work in the facilities due to COVID-19 was undoubtedly not, but we instituted pandemic protocols in the field and worked weekends and off-hours to ensure all goals were met.

Pharmacy practices are a vital element of daily operations at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) where compassionate clinical care is at the heart of every visit. When pharmacy upgrades were essential to meet new USP 800 standards at Dana-Farber’s South Shore and Milford locations, Terva played an instrumental role in overseeing a $5.5 million reconfiguration of both spaces while barely interrupting pharmacy and medical oncology operations.

Reaching higher standards

From early logistics planning to building management approvals for newer technologies—to sensitive communications around infection control, both facilities were upgraded on schedule with zero safety concerns. Now, with newly upgraded spaces—a medication preparation room, pharmacy-receiving room, processing room with ISO 8 capability, ISO 7 anteroom, and ISO 7 compounding/buffer room, DFCI pharmacy operations are running at utmost efficiency. Safety measures are in place for staff, and most meaningfully, patients receiving treatment truly benefit.
