The 7,000-square-foot auditorium at JCC Greater Boston was in need of an update to better support the organization’s diverse programming and future needs. The TERVA Design Team went to work on renovating the existing space to create a modern, versatile environment for community gatherings, presentations, and performances. The project focused on enhancing functionality, improving acoustics, and creating a welcoming atmosphere while maximizing the flexibility of the existing space.
The renovation project included updated finishes, new flooring throughout, upgraded audiovisual systems, and acoustic improvements to enhance sound quality and conceal existing HVAC ductwork. Full-wall acoustic panels, integrated lighting, and a contemporary audiovisual feature wall with a wood-look finish contributed to a cohesive design that balances visual appeal with technical performance. Updated lighting and a refined material palette of warm wood tones and soft wall colors further enhanced the auditorium’s overall ambiance.
The improved audiovisual capabilities and flexible seating arrangements allow the auditorium to accommodate a range of uses, from large community gatherings and presentations to smaller events and intimate performances. All improvements were completed on schedule and within budget, with the renovated space meeting applicable ADA and Massachusetts Architectural Access Board (MAAB) accessibility requirements.
Through thoughtful design and targeted upgrades, TERVA Design delivered a functional, adaptable, and inviting community space that will support JCC Greater Boston’s diverse programming and future needs.
